Chase the Moon 50k
Chase the Moon 50k (June 27, 2026) - I went into this race feeling seriously under trained as my longest run this year was only 19 miles. This race takes place at night on the trails of the back country in Highlands Ranch. Start time was 7:00 PM and the temperature was hot at 90 degrees. I trained on the course several times in early June so I knew where and how to pace myself. The 50k race is three loops with each loop of 10.35 miles, equating to 31 total miles. My strategy was to finish each loop under two hours. All three laps went smoothly and I met my goal with laps of 1:55:27, 1:58:26 and 1:59:14.
When I finished, they announced that I was first in the Men’s division and Second place overall. I collected my medal and plaque and headed home, feeling a great sense of accomplishment.
When I got up on Sunday morning, I found that I got “bumped” to second place Male and Third Place overall. Apparently, the man who bumped me missed the checkpoint on the first lap but he must have been able to prove that he came through, either from his watch data or the camera system at the checkpoint. No matter, I still ran a quality race and met my goals. No hard feelings. On to the next one…
(Bonus - I was the oldest runner in the race)
